Modern data analysis employs sophisticated methods such as machine learning that go well beyond the roll-up and drill-down capabilities of traditional SQL query engines. As a software engineer on the Runtime team at Databricks, you will be building the next generation distributed data storage and processing systems that can outperform specialized SQL query engines in relational query performance, yet provide the expressiveness and programming abstractions to support diverse workloads ranging from ETL to data science.
Responsibilities:
Develop the de facto open source standard framework for big data (Apache Spark).
Provide reliable and high performance services and client libraries for storing and accessing vast amounts of data on cloud storage backends, e.g., AWS S3, Azure Blob Store (Data Plane Storage).
Manage a storage management system that combines the scale and cost-efficiency of data lakes with the performance and reliability of a data warehouse (Delta Lake).
Orchestrate and operate tens of thousands of data pipelines (Delta Pipelines).
Build the next generation query optimizer and execution engine that is fast, tuning free, scalable, and robust (Performance Engineering).
What we look for:
BS (or higher) in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
Comfortable working towards a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables.
Motivated by delivering customer value and impact.
8+ years of production level experience in either Java, Scala or C++.
Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real-world use cases.
Experience with distributed systems, databases, and big data systems (Apache Spark, Hadoop).

The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above.

Design and manage the Money systems and services, commercializing all Databricks products and offerings.
Develop innovative primitives that enable and support various pricing strategies such as Pay-As-You-Go, commissions, credits, trials, and promotions.
Enhance engineering and infrastructure efficiency, reliability, accuracy, and response times, including CI/CD processes, test frameworks, data quality assurance, end-to-end reconciliation, and anomaly detection.
Collaborate with commercialization experts to develop and implement innovative pricing strategies and plans.
Use AI and LLMs to innovate in cost insight, prediction, and optimization across various cloud providers.
Provide leadership in long-term vision and requirements development for Databricks products, in partnership with our engineering teams.
Represent Databricks at academic and industrial conferences & events.

Job Description JOB SUMMARY: The position requires the individual to apply their basic technical knowledge and any prior experience for the support of project start up, commissioning and troubleshooting activities. In addition, this position will be responsible for field assisting of engineering, programming, graphics and closeout documentation activities for each project.
