Description Data Architect Software Development Role Mission: IDEA is currently undergoing a significant digital transformation initiative to modernize our data and analytics infrastructure. As the new Data Architect, you will play a pivotal role in leading the architecture, design, and implementation of our next-generation data solutions. In this hands-on role, you will architect and engineer data pipelines, platforms, integrations, and products on modern cloud platforms, such as Snowflake, Databricks, Azure, and/or GCP. Collaborating closely with the data leadership team, you will shape the long-term vision, cloud adoption roadmaps, future-state analytical architecture, and data governance frameworks necessary for this transformation. Location: This is a national, full-time, remote position. Quarterly travel is required for visits to our headquarters office located in Weslaco, Texas. What Youll Do - Accountabilities Essential Duties: <ul> <li>Design future-state analytical architecture and cloud migration roadmap. </li><li>Lead platform evaluation and hands-on build-out of data infrastructure on cloud technologies. </li><li>Define and implement data integration, security, governance, and metadata retention strategies. </li><li>Implement methodologies and reuse strategies to enhance quality while optimizing development. </li><li>Define metadata strategy and lineage tracking capabilities. </li><li>Drive initiatives to improve system reliability, availability, and performance. </li><li>Lead cloud adoption while ensuring continuity of existing analytical initiatives. </li><li>Continuously monitor post-implementation architecture health, performance, and scalability. </li><li>Provide guidance to software engineering teams on design, scalability, and performance. </li><li>Maintain continuity of existing analytics and data engineering initiatives during transformation. </li><li>Improve architecture health, scalability, and efficiency as changes emerge. </li><li>Design and document the Logical Data Model and develop a Physical Data Model. </li><li>Create and execute Data Definition Language (DDL) statements for Snowflake and/or Delta Lake objects. </li><li>Lead the team in designing 3NF logical and physical models in Erwin. </li><li>Drive and build data model and architecture, implementing frameworks to ensure adherence to data architecture. </li><li>Reverse engineer and understand the existing SQL/processes. </li><li>Assist in developing data strategies for cloud data platform, master data management, metadata management, analytics, and data integration. </li><li>Provide deep expertise in databases, data modeling, data architecture, and operating systems. </li><li>Support end-to-end data asset lifecycle management activities. </li><li>Design robust, scalable, real-time data pipelines and data platform architecture. </li><li>Lead the review and design of new data products, maintaining product documentation. </li></ul> What You Bring - Competencies Qualifications: Education: <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Information Technology/Computer Science </li><li>10+ years related work experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. </li></ul> Licenses or Certifications: <ul> <li>Any Cloud Certifications (Azure, GCP, AWS) </li></ul> Knowledge and Skills: Required <ul> <li>10+ years as a hands-on data engineering and 5+ technical data architect with 3+ years in cloud implementations. </li><li>Proven track record of driving large-scale cloud data platform modernization initiatives. </li><li>Deep expertise with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and Data framework providers (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks). </li><li>Proficiency in designing scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure solutions. </li><li>Ability to mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and lead design sessions. </li><li>Champion data modeling standards and best practices. </li><li>Knowledge of Data Warehousing, ETL, and BI architectures, concepts, and frameworks. </li><li>Strategic leader with the ability to compellingly communicate technology vision to executives. </li><li>Self-driven technologist passionate about innovations in the data space. </li><li>Ability to work independently and contribute effectively in a fast-paced environment. </li></ul> Preferred <ul> <li>Knowledge of Canonical data models like HEDA (Higher education data architecture). </li><li>5 or more years' experience using Linux scripting (Python, Shell, etc.) </li><li>5 or more years' experience in SQL development and/or NoSQL databases </li><li>5 or more years' experience with cloud-based data offerings (Amazon AWS, Redshift, Snowflake, Google GCP, Microsoft Azure) </li></ul> What We Offer: Compensation & Benefits: Salaries for people entering this role are competitive and commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity.
