Alarm.com is seeking an ambitious and talented Embedded Software Engineer with a B.A., B.S., or M.S. Electrical/Computer Engineering or a similar engineering background with an interest in sensing applications and IoT. The Embedded Software Engineer position is ideal for candidates who want to work with various video and audio technologies in an Embedded Linux environment. Interest in sensors, computer vision, and microcontrollers for home automation and security applications, is plus as well.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul>
<li>Develop firmware and video applications for Alarm.com’s smart cameras</li>
<li>Work closely with multiple teams including electronic design engineers on system design and integrate firmware and hardware components of the overall system design</li>
<li>Be knowledgeable and forward-thinking regarding technologies and developments in embedded firmware development, sensors, short and long-range wireless communication, and power management</li>
<li>Researching, designing and implementing highly reliable embedded firmware and software</li>
<li>Collaborate with firmware engineers</li>
<li>Operating independently but working with the senior management to understand and be fully aligned with company goals and strategies</li>
<li>Building systems that balance resources, constraints, requirements, and complexity by analyzing all possible options for designing and deriving the best solution based on sound analytical judgment</li>
<li>Work with hardware team to communicate requirements</li>

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

<li>Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 3-5 years of work experience</li>
<li>Strong C programming skills</li>

<li>Shell scripting experience</li>
<li>Strong understanding of various Linux IPC mechanisms</li>
<li>Experience in Buildroot</li>
<li>Linux kernel driver development</li>
<li>Strong understanding of proper code design for multi-threaded environments</li>
<li>Experience with advanced build systems such as CMake or Meson</li>
<li>Knowledge of video compression standards and frameworks such as H.264, MPEG</li>
<li>Experience developing REST APIs</li>
<li>Good understanding of networking protocols relevant to video such as UDP, TCP, RTP, RTSP, WebRTC</li>
